. Based on the 1908 play
Madame X
, by French playwright Alexandre Bisson, and adapted for the screen by J.E. Nash and Frank Lloyd, thrown out of her home by a jealous husband (William Courtleigh), a woman (Pauline Frederick) sinks into degradation. Twenty years later, she is charged with killing a man bent on harming her son (Casson Ferguson), whon, unaware of who the woman is, takes the assignment to defend her in court.
The image depicts an interior shot of Jacqueline Floriot (

) on her way down as she looks at her maid, Marie (
Maude George
). It is in fine+ condition with a 1 in. diagonal crease on the top border to the left of center; a sharp 1.5 in. horizontal crease on the bottom half of the left border that goes into the background area and which has a small tear on the edge; and some random semi-circular shaped creases in the right half of the background area. The image quality is very sharp with very fine detail and beautiful contrast.
