Kay? 1/4 Sized H10 Upright String Bass 1947 Ser#15905 Needs Repair
We are cleaning out the back of our warehouse - this is being sold in as is good used condition.  Pictured is the actual item you will get so please look at the pictures closely.
This string bass is in good overall condition. It does need some repair-mostly around the back side in the C curves. There is a small hole in the bottom of the body and some cracking in one of the f holes (see pictures). It has been sitting for quite some time so it will also need general clean up. It does have it's bridge and tailpiece as well as all four strings-so you could  bring this instrument back to life relatively easily. It would be perfect for a kid starting orchestra due to it's miniature size. Kay is a well known name in the string bass world for creating high-quality instruments. We believe this to be a Kay H10 because of the markings on the inside - it does not say Kay but it does have H10. It measures approximately 63". No bow or case are included.

We were contacted by someone who operates
the Kay Bass and Cello Registry at Kaybass.com. They can confirm that this instrument was made by Kay in Chicago in 1947, probably for sale under a different brand.
They also want to let us know that the damage to the bass-side f-hole indicates likely failure of the bass bar, a vitally important structural part, and that any string pressure could increase damage to the top and the extent of necessary repairs.
