    Description

Historic 194 Year Old New Orleans Roofing Slate (Free Shipping). Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS
I purchased this slate at the French market in New Orleans in 2002. At the time they were roughly 175 years old but now our aged roughly 194 years old. The front of the slate has a picture of artwork of the St Louis cathedral drawn by an artist in 1976. On back it states where these slates originated from saying they were mined in Pennsylvania and floated down the Ohio and Mississippi River on rafts. They were used for roofing material after the disastrous fire which occurred on Good Friday March 21st 1788. Each one is individually hand shaped. The slate has a leather strap on it for hanging. This is a great piece of history to own. This slate is 9 inches tall and 7 inches wide. I have also listed another smaller slate if you are interested.
