4" Creamer, Flower & Leaves
From Erphila Art Pottery comes this very colorful creamer (or small pitcher) in a very colorful design with hand-painted green leaves on the side, framing an extravagant blue and golden-brown flower on the front, with black trim on the rim and high-arched handle. Erphila was "an import company owned by Ebeling and Reuss of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company imported high-quality pottery from many factories in Czechoslovakia, operating from approximately 1920 to 1940" (Czechoslovakian Pottery, page 34).
The small creamer is 4 inches high at the top of the arched handle and 1.75 inches wide across the foot ring. There is one major condition problem: the black handle has been broken off and glued back on (not terribly professionally); see closeup photos with red arrows. There is also one very small fleabite or rough spot on the black rim edge near the spout tip. There are no other chips, cracks, or crazing that I can see, but because of th broken handle, this piece is being sold "as is."
The underside is marked in dark green with "Erphila Art Pottery / Czecho Slovakia." There is also a faint underglaze impressed number that I think is 218, though it is difficult to make out. A google search turned up a large pitcher in this pattern with the mark 211.
